SAMPLE LETTER TO A SENATOR

The Honorable (insert first and last name)
United States Senate

Dear Senator _______________:

As a voting Polish American citizen of [Maryland - Virginia as appropriate], I ask you to co-sponsor and support S. 497, the "Secure Travel and Counterterrorism Partnership Program Act," a bipartisan bill that has been introduced in the Senate by Senators Barbara Mikulski and Mark Kirk. The bill updates the Visa Waiver Program framework to both strengthen American security and facilitate tourism to the United States. A companion bill, H.R. 959, was simultaneously introduced in the House.

Once enacted, this would open the way for my family's relatives in Poland to visit us in the United States visa-free, as do the citizens of virtually all other nations in NATO and the European Union, of which Poland is a member.

Polish citizens have supported American freedom and security from the Revolutionary War through Iraq and Afghanistan. I think that the time has come for Polish citizens to be treated as the friends and allies they are, and for Polish Americans to be able to count on welcoming our Polish family and friends into our homes.

Thank you for your consideration and support.

Sincerely,
