The Division's Annual Thanksgiving Dinner was held on
Sunday, November 20, 2005

This year we hosted as guest of honor H.E. Janusz Reiter, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to the United States, who assumed his duties in Washington at the beginning of October 2005. He gave the keynote speech.

This year, which is the 25th anniversary of the founding of Solidarity in Poland, the recipient of the Division's Award of Recognition was Sophie Miskiewicz Peters, who was honored for her instrumental role in founding and running the Friends of Solidarity in Washington in 1981, after the trade union was de-legalized by the imposition of martial law in Poland - also for her many years of work for the PAC at both the National and Division levels.

The inscription on the plaque:

Washington Metropolitan Area Division

presents this award to

Sophie Miskiewicz Peters

in recognition of her activities
on behalf of Poland's Solidarity in the 1980's
and within the Polish American Congress
at both the Division and National levels

You are a credit to all Polonia
and the fundamental values that we hold dear
